The Durango is a full-size SUV from Chrysler’s Dodge brand. It was introduced in 1998 and underwent a major revision in 2004.

The SUV was further updated for the 2007 model year and featured a redesigned grille, hood, headlamps, fenders and wheels. New features like an electronic stability program, tyre pressure monitoring system and rear park assist were also introduced.

Nonetheless the Durango never really met its sales goals and Chrysler announced that production of the SUV would cease for the 2010 model year.

The 2009 model however continues to sell in the Middle East until stocks last. The next generation Durango is expected to arrive in 2012 and is expected to share its platform with the new Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 2009 Dodge features a powerful 376bhp, 5.7-litre V8 which gives the big and burly SUV decent performance but is low on fuel economy because of the weight it has to haul around. The Durango is an old school SUV with a body-on-frame construction, which bodes well for off-road driving and towing.

The 2009 Durango is available in two trim versions; SLT and Limited. Both feature three rows of seating with rear air conditioning. The Limited comes loaded with power sunroof, leather bucket front seats with power adjust, premium sound system, automatic headlamps, power liftgate and memory setting for driver seat, mirrors, air conditioning and adjustable pedals.

The 2009 Durango still holds value for buyers looking at a bargain full-size SUV capable of hauling large families and lots of luggage. The interiors are spacious and feature all modern amenities with simple to use controls. The fact that the Durango is not produced anymore may deter buyers but is also an opportunity to negotiate a great deal with the dealer.
